Complaints Procedure



Introduction



If you are dissatisfied with the service provided through Bird & Co Solicitors LLP then you have the right to complain. The Legal Ombudsman service has been operational since October 6th, 2010 and is ultimately responsible for ensuring that complaints are dealt with appropriately.


However, before you contact the Legal Ombudsman you must first register an official complaint with Bird & Co Solicitors LLP. 


Normally, the Legal Ombudsman expects you to give us 8 weeks to try to resolve the matter. If after 8 weeks you are still dissatisfied you can then involve  the  Legal Ombudsman. For more information on how the Legal Ombudsman works please  visit the Legal Ombudsman website.


Timescales



In order for a complaint to be considered by the Legal Ombudsman you are required to register a complaint with Bird & Co Solicitors LLP and you must then give Bird & Co Solicitors LLP 8 weeks to try to resolve your complaint before contacting the Legal Ombudsman. A complaint to the Legal Ombudsman must normally be made within six months of the date of the conclusion of the Firm's complaints procedure.


Ordinarily, where a matter is referred to the Legal Ombudsman:

  • the act or omission, or when the complainant should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint, must have been after 5 October 2010; and
  • the complainant must refer the complaint to the Legal Ombudsman no later than:6 years from the act/omission; or
    3 years from when the complainant should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint.

In summary:

  • You must register your complaint with Bird & Co Solicitors LLP within the timescales
  • The Legal Ombudsman expects you to give Bird & Co Solicitors LLP 8 weeks to try to resolve your complaint
  • After this time, you can contact the Legal Ombudsman (but you must do so within 6 months)

Text Resizing



If you have a general problem with the size of text on websites (ours and others) there are typically three ways of increasing the size:

  1. Change Operating System Preferences
    You can change settings within Windows, macOS, iOS and Android operating systems to increase the size of text used - this makes all text on your computer larger (not just websites)
  2. Change Browser Preferences
    You can change settings within your browser to increase the default size of "normal" text - this has the effect of enlarging the text on all the websites that you visit (provided those websites have been built in an accessible way)
  3. Zoom-in
    You can increase the level of browser zoom at any time to enlarge any web-page - the effect is to zoom-in to the page just like enlarging an image. All browsers support this feature, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge

This website has been built in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0) established by the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C). Although the guidelines aim to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities there are wider benefits to adopting the guidelines as they make sites more user friendly for all.
